Happy

Hii friends and family! I love you. I miss you. I hope everyone is happy and healthy. I am!! I get happier and healthier every day! :) This week I was happy for a lot of reasons.
1. I got to face time my family for Mothers Day
2. I got to go to the temple
3. The weather is BEAUTIFUL
4. Our investigators are doing AWESOME
5. I found out I am not allergic to avocado anymore
6. I have felt the Spirit so strong
7. Sister Benosa and I are the best of friends
I could keep going on & on & on. First and foremost, seeing my family, talking and laughing with them, was THE absolute best. I am tearing up just typing about it right now. It was perfect. So good to see my sweet Momma on Mothers day and laugh with my Daddie and siblings. Those precious moments are a huge blessing from our Father in Heaven. I have few things to compare that kind of joy to. I love my family, they are my everything. And good news! They still love me and haven't forgotten about me! :))  I loved every second of it. Of course I have to share my Daddie's newest joke that he shared with me (it wouldn't have been complete without it): What kind of teeth can you get for a dollar? Buck teeth. LOL
The temple was wonderful. The Spirit is so strong there. My heart was filled with pure peace. I didn't want to leave ever!!! Being on beautiful sacred temple grounds on a gorgeous day with palm trees & a sea breeze & lunch did make it easier to leave His house. I just want to BE with Him. Imagine how happy that will be. Wow. But I am so blessed to be so close to a temple! :)
About the avocado.. I have been allergic to avocado since I can remember. It makes my throat itch and I vomit. I hadn't had it in over 7 years until the other day I accidentally ate it in a salad at a members home.. but nothing happened!!! So I went to the store and bought 5 and ate avocado every day this week I was so happy haha Tender Mercy for SURE.
Ben is doing great! We moved his baptismal date to May 28th because he felt kind of rushed and is going through some stuff so we are working towards that date! He works the graveyard shift but still comes to church!
The ward held a bridal shower for Gaby. So nice. Her date is May 20th! She is getting married the 17th! So exciting! & her husband came to church Sunday!
We finally heard back from the Castellano family. They had been out of town!!! Everyone else is doing well..we are staying busy with the Visitors Center schedule and loving it! The other night at the VC we had a bunch of Bishops and Stake Presidents come and tour the new VC. We performed a song called "This is the Christ" and recited the Living Christ. The Spirit was so strong as we were circled around the Christ statue. It is beautiful how testifying of Him, singing of Him,&speaking of Him brings the Spirit so quickly and powerfully.
We are still getting used to all the new exhibits in the VC and so I asked one of the senior missionaries, Elder Nielsen (one of my best friends here.. he is AWESOME) to show us how he presents this one video. It is a video of Elder Christofferson describing the First Vision and bearing testimony of it, the Book of Mormon, the Restoration, and Jesus Christ. As he played the video, I couldn't hold back my tears. I was overcome with the Spirit. I knew that what Elder Christofferson was saying was the truth! Suddenly my whole body was filled with love and I felt so warm and happy. I knew that God loved me. It wasn't because the video said, "God loves you," but because the RESTORATION of the gospel of Jesus Christ is a HUGE manifestations of God's love for us. Probably the biggest next to the Atonement of Jesus Christ. We have the truth! We have hope, joy, peace, forgiveness, repentance, guidance, modern day prophets, scriptures, & a plan & purpose & sense of who we are because of the Restoration. I knew it was true from the core of my being. There was nothing that could shake me or convince me otherwise. It's funny and special how I study this and testify of it every day, but then one day it randomly hits you that it's true and the Spirit is so strong. It's kind of like, "It's still true in case you were wondering" haha. Elder Nielsen wept with me as he bore his testimony of the Restoration of the Priesthood, showing the pictures of Jesus Christ's twelve apostles, and the picture right next to it of the modern day twelve apostles. POWERFUL. We have the most beautiful message in the world. It's true. It is so true.
All throughout the Book of Mormon there are missionaries who face so much opposition, but they keep going. They keep teaching. They keep trusting. They get kicked out of one city and go to the next. They served 18 YEAR missions, not 18 months. I am reading in Alma right now and Ammon just went to deliver his brothers out of jail:
Alma 20:29 "And when Ammon did meet them he was exceedingly sorrowful, for behold they were naked, and their skins were worn exceedingly because of being bound with strong cords. And they also had suffered hunger, thirst, and all kinds of afflictions; nevertheless they were patient in all their sufferings."
This is just ONE example of TONS of missionaries who were spit on, stoned, thrown out, yelled at, cast into prison, starved, beat, bound, ect. Wow they have all become my heroes. How did they press on? How did they not lose their faith? How did they not just give up or at least take a break!!!?Whenever something hard happens like one door is slammed in our face, I'm like, "wow I need some ice cream." They remained patient. They trusted the Lord. They prayed. They studied. Studying their lives and their missions has helped me to appreciate my mission. I have it SO easy compared to them!! When it gets hard, I just think of them and their examples and strength and faith. They help me to keep going and put my tiny little problems in perspective, "Hey! At least they didn't throw us into jail and spit on us!" I am so grateful for these incredible prophets, missionaries, and disciples of Jesus Christ that set the perfect example for us to follow, and big shoes to fill!
I hope this letter finds you happy & safe & healthy. Thank you for loving & supporting me & taking care of my family while I'm gone. I am the happiest ever and just SO grateful it is hard to express.
Love ALWAYS

There are souls to be saved!

Happy hello from the beautiful Bay area!! :)
I love it here. The weather has been perfect!! I just want to be outside alllll day. We eat outside every meal, study outside, sometimes even teach outside!!! I cant get enough of it.
David's baptism was AMAZING. A little hectic at first, as always. It may or may not have involved me wading through the font while it was filling up with my skirt pulled up to unlock the mens bathroom but its all good!! The Spirit was SO strong. Heart pounding, eyes watering the entire time. David bore his testimony afterwards and it was so powerful. In his broken english he said, "This is my testimony. The missionaries taught me about obedience and faith. I know the gospel is true. Jesus Christ is alive in my heart." It was BEAUTIFUL. He received the Holy Ghost yesterday at church. They are working towards getting sealed in the temple! I cant believe we met him just a month or so ago. And here he was, bearing testimony of Jesus Christ. Oh how He changes peoples lives and hearts!! I am so happy to be a part of His work, helping people to change their lives. It is Jesus Christ that does it, but He needs instruments! It is a humbling and beautiful experience. Nothing quite like it.
Ben is still doing awesome! His baptism is on Saturday! In his prayers he always asks that Heavenly Father helps him to prepare for his baptism. He also said, "Help me to keep the commandments after my baptism, and also before my baptism." Pure heart.
Gaby is facing some adversity, Please keep her in your prayers. She is still on track for getting married on the 17th and baptized that weekend. The ward is throwing a bridal shower for her!
We havent heard from the Castellano family in a while. Jose's mom got in a car accident and we havent heard from them since. Satan is getting in their way since they are so golden. But dont worry, we wont quit!!
The new translator for Javzaa's lessons came and it went well!!
Way back in the fall I gave a tour to a lady from Texas named Rockie and her boyfriend, a less active. She gave me her information and I sent missionaries to her home. I had been reaching out to her to see how things were going but hadnt heard back in a while. She finally emailed me back and she is meeting with the missionaries, getting baptized, and marrying her reactivated boyfriend!! She said, "The Visitors' Center was the start to my journey. I cant thank you enough since you are the one who sent the missionaries to me!" The Visitors' Center works miracles, It changes peoples lives, people from all over the world! How beautiful. I love keeping in touch with these fun people I get to meet and see how they are doing, how they are progressing. I love this work. love it love it love it.
MOTHERS DAY is this weekend!!!! I get to call home! I am so excited to see my sweetest Momma on her special day and my precious family. They are my everything. I wouldnt be here without them. They are my support and best friends! I miss them dearly. AND we get to go to the temple next week, which is the most wonderful. I am looking forward to that immensely! I am so lucky to have the most beautiful temple in the world so close every single day. The Spirit is so strong on those grounds, and only gets stronger inside! :)
Sister Benosa and I made a new goal for the month of May! We are going to read the Book of Mormon from start to finish. May 1st - May 31st. We did the math and it will be 17 pages a day. We did the math and it takes us an hour 10 read 17 pages, switching off every other verse. SO we are waking up an hour earlier (5am) to read the Book of Mormon. We have done it two mornings so far and its been awesome! I love it. I am looking forward to see my faith, my relationship with my Savior, and my testimony of the Book of Mormon grow. Also, I hope to have the Spirit in greater abundance. If any of you want to do it with us, you are two days behind already, so get started!! :)
This ward is AMAZING. I feel so at home here. The members have become some of my best friends! One morning we were going to the VC for our morning shift and the ward was there doing baptisms for the dead. When they saw us, they came running up to us saying, "YAY ITS THE SISTERS!!" I could stay here forever.
I am trying to be a better instrument in the Lord's hand by listening to the Spirit and responding to its promptings. I want to the Lord to be able to trust me like, "Oh, I'll give Sister Brinton this prompting because I know she will act on it." I want to be able to recognize the people He places in my path. I want to be in tune, have my will be swallowed up in His, see His children as He sees them!
An awesome quote from President Monson I read this week:

"Let us ask ourselves the questions: 'Have I done any good in the world today? Have I helped anyone in need?' What a formula for happiness! What a prescription for contentment, for inner peace - to have inspired gratitude in another human being. Our opportunity to give of ourselves is limitless, but they are also perishable. There are hearts to gladden. There are kind words to say. There are gifts to be given. There are deeds to be done. There are souls to be saved."

7

Hello!! :)
We had another beautiful week. Full of miracles and success and joy. This is beautiful work and there is no where else I would rather be!! I love everything about serving a mission and being a missionary.
The weather this week has been absolutely beautiful! We ate lunch outside at the park every day! I cant get enough of it! :)
We had SEVEN investigators at church! This is the most I have ever had on my mission! So exciting and beautiful. AND Tristan passed the sacrament! AH! I felt like a proud momma haha.
David's baptism is this Saturday at 6! Please keep him in your prayers. He might be the cutest thing on earth. This will be a special day! Cant believe we only met him a little over a month ago! He is an example of someone who is just so ready and willing, someone who hears the gospel and just knows its true! Like the people of King Benjamin when they said they had no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually. LOVE.
We got a text on Friday night that the Visitors' Center is officially open!!!! WHO HOOO!! Finally. I cant wait to serve up there on those sacred grounds and see miracles miracles miracles. They are just WAITING! I can feel it!
We got to teach the lady from Mongolia, Javzaa! We called the friend/translator, Altan, and did our very best. It was pretty chaotic. It took us about an hour and 15 minutes to get through the Restoration. We would teach a simple principle, then we would be like okay translate! and they would talk for a while, but we didnt know what they were saying. I dont know. It seemed okay. He said she understood everything but then proceeded to tell us that he doesnt really know the gospel in Mongolian so he gave us his friends number who does. SO we are going to try again on Tuesday. At the end of the lesson I asked Altan if he could tell her that we loved her and he said, "oh sorry we dont really say that in our culture so that would be weird." I said, "too bad just do it." I think he told her and she smiled and gave us a hug so thats good :)
The night after the piano concert two weekends ago, the Nielsens, a senior couple from Roosevelt, Utah who serves up at the Visitors Center with us, went over to the VC to turn off the lights and lock up. There was a family standing outside the VC. They said, "Oh are you closed?" Elder Nielsen hesitated (because it wasnt officially open, it was past hours, and we werent supposed to let people in) but he did was Jesus Christ would do and he said, "Come in." They ended up showing this Hispanic family of 5 around the Visitors Center for an hour and they were SO interested and went to church with them the next day. This family is the Castellanos.
They found out that they live in San Leandro, which is right next to our area, but just outside of it. BUT we got permission to teach them because we are sisters duh. So one night we met up with the Nielsens and went to teach this beautiful family. They are new to the area and are looking for a church to raise their family in. They opened the door and let all 4 of us into their apartment. They were dressed up all fancy, wearing dresses and church clothes, and make up! I have never had anyone dress up for a lesson! SO sweet. So there is the mom and dad, then they have 4 kids, one of which is 8 years old!! We taught the Restoration and it went so well. The Spirit was so strong and when I invited them to be baptized, the mom said, "of course." AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! In those moments you try to act calm and reserved, but inside you are frrreeaaaking out. So happy. They are so golden. They know its true! You can see it in their eyes. They came to church on Sunday, despite some car troubles they had. Already faithful. It has been my dream to teach a family!! That is what they encourage us to do! Teach families.
We had two lessons with Ben this week. He is SO awesome. So sweet and sincere. A few things from the lesson (We run to the car and write these down so we dont forget):
- "I saw some missionaries in North Carolina just like you two sisters, but they never talked to me. Maybe it's because I wasn't ready!"
- He told us that he knows this is the true church because of the Spirit he has felt.
- "Man, I wish I could have had this feeling in North Carolina."
- "I had some doubts about being baptized," my heart sank, "but after church on Sunday and our lessons, I know I want to be baptized."
- In his prayer: "I know you'll guide me on my journey to be baptized. Thank you for the sisters always being there for me. They taught me that you will always love me."
I died. He is so cute. His baptism is May 7th! Next weekend! And so it Mothers Day! :))
When we serve in the Visitors' Center, we have a few hours where we teach people online and answer mormon.org chats! I answered the chat of this one man named David. I had to go so I got his email so we could keep in touch. We emailed back and forth a little. Then the Visitors Center closed for two months. When I got back on, I had this email from him from way back in February!

Hi Emma,
I know its been a while since I have written back to you two and I apologize. There has been so much happening since we last talked. I have been readying, studying and praying for an answer to all this. God does work in mysterious ways and knows whats in our hearts and he knows what I need. I was at work the other day when the lord gave me his answer. His answer came upon me so fast and it made me feel so calm and warm and I knew right then and there that the Holy spirit was in me. I have never in my life ever felt like God was right there with me. I'm so excited, all the time I have spent in church wanting some kind of spiritual uplifting and never feeling anything. I know now that being introduced to the Book of Mormon was in Gods plan for me and people like you where used by him to help me. My gosh Emma even as a I type this it feels so wonderful to express how I'm feeling. The Book of Mormon is true and I know the gospel is true and I do so want to live it. I feel born again through the Holy spirit and I know that this will bring me closer to Jesus and through him to the Father. I am so thankful that this happened to me and I feel so blessed that God has revealed to me the true path to his salvation. I know that there is a lot to learn yet but I am going to move forward in my journey and surround my self with people who can only lift me up. Emma you have been such a blessing to me and I put so much value on what you say so thank you so much. I hope to hear from you again.
David

We have been emailing back and forth and baptism is on the way! Beautiful. Missionary work all the way around the world through technology!
Well I am happy happy happy. No complaints from San Leandro! Thank you for all of your love and support and prayers and fasting. Please know how much I love you and am grateful for you.
The Savior lives. He LOVES us. He is coming so soon! Let us be faithful and pray without ceasing.
Love

What a wonderful Week!

hi hi!
I know I say this every week, but I am the happiest missionary in the field. I think this is the happiest I've ever been EVER! We have transfers this week and Sister Benosa and I are staying in San Lorenzo!! So happy. I love this area, Sister Benosa, the ward, the people, the Visitors' Center, the weather, the work, the district, you name it. We are seeing miracle after miracle and blessing after blessing. What a wonderful week. Every night I sit down to write in my journal and I am just like where do i start? I usually start by saying something like, "today was the best day ever" or "we had a beautiful day today." I love being a missionary. I wouldn't trade this precious opportunity for anything!! :)
We have been doing our studies outside in this beautiful courtyard just outside our apartment because it is SO beautiful.
Tristan got the Aaronic priesthood! So awesome. He is just glowing.
Gaby is officially getting married on May 17th! So her baptism will be the Saturday after her baptism, so the 21st! So awesome. The date is farther out than we wanted of course, but we are grateful that it has worked out! She is like a member already. The goal is to baptize her and her husband!
We set a baptismal date with Ben for May 7th! We taught him twice last week and he came to a baptism on Friday and church on Sunday! 85% of investigators who come to a baptism get baptized! In his prayer after our lesson this week he said, "Please help me to be baptized." I WISH all of you could hear the beautifully sincere and heartfelt prayers these investigators and recent converts say. The Spirit is SO strong and it has taught me that it is not WHAT you say, but HOW you say it, if it came from your heart. Their prayers come from the bottom of their hearts with all energy and sincere desire. I want to pray like them! One things that MELTS my heart the most is when they pray for US, their missionaries: "and please help these sweet sisters to travel safely" or "please watch over and bless these sisters" or "thank you for leading these sisters to me and helping me change my life." AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
Mongolian Miracle: We were leaving our apartment one morning and as we were going through the gate, this man was walking in and he goes, "MISSIONARIES!" That has NEVER happened to us haha and we were like yep thats us! Long story short, he is 27 from Mongolia, moved here 11 years ago, convert of 3 years, goes to BYUI but is living in San Fran right now. His friend from Mongolia moved here 4 months ago, single mom with 2 little boys, no english, and she lives FIVE doors down from us. Her name is Javsaa. He said she has been wanting to learn and he has been looking for the missionaries for her!! We met her and he translated for us. We ran to the mission home and grabbed every material we could find in Mongolian and brought them to her one night. We weren't with her friend, Altan, when we dropped them off and she just lit up and hugged us even though she was nursing with no shirt on and flipped through the Book of Mormon saying, "good, good." Here we were, in a strangers apartment, at 9 at night, with a mongolian woman who doesnt speak a lick of Enligsh, and she was so happy. We have no way to communicate, yet we loved each other and the Spirit was there. It's because it's not about words, it's about the Spirit! We communicate Spirit to Spirit anyways. That is what is SO beautiful about the gospel and the Book of Mormon and the Spirit! Heavenly Father loves ALL His children, whether they are from Nigeria or Mongolian or Taiwan and He will speak to them in their own language. So powerful. :) SO we figured out a way to teach her! Obviously :) We are going to go over to her apartment and teach her with Altan on the phone so he can translate! We dont have any Mongolian speaking missionaries or members so this will have to do! Or I could learn Mongolian. Tender Mercy.
SOOOO best thing about this week.. We got to go into the BRAND NEW renovated Visitors' Center! On Friday morning, we woke up early early and got to the temple grounds. We waited for all the sisters and senior couples to come. We were all outside the VC just GIDDY! It honestly felt like Christmas morning, but BETTER! We were so nervous and excited, taking pictures and hugging and giggling, all 22 sisters and 6 senior couples. We are like a family. One big family on Christmas morning. We finally got to go in, all together. I cannot describe the feeling that came over me when I walked into the Visitors' Center for that first time, after months of waiting and anticipating. The Spirit was SO strong it just pierced my heart and I was FULL of warmth and LOVE! It was a very, very similar experience to entering the temple. I was filled with peace. It felt like coming home. I was so happy!!! TEARS for the first 4 hours of training. Representatives came from Salt Lake to train us on all of the new equipment and all the new exhibits!!! It was wonderful!! The new VC is BEAUTIFUL! COME SEE!!
We fasted from lunch on Friday to lunch on Saturday that the VC would open as soon as possible. We all knelt in prayer and poured out our hearts to the Father. I know he heard our prayers because on Saturday, right after we had broken out fasts, we began training again. All of the sudden, ELDER QUENTIN L COOK walked in. We all gasped. To be honest, I was like hmm he looks familiar. Then I realized who it was thank you Emma. We stood and he quickly told us to sit down. He shared a beautiful testimony of the Savior. The Spirit was RADIATING from him AH!!!! He left us with this special message and blessing I hold so dear to my heart:

"This is a sacred and holy work. I invoke a special blessing upon you that you will have the Spirit with you, that you will touch people's hearts, and that you will help them come to know and understand the Savior Jesus Christ. He lives and this is His work."

  Yeah. Pretty awesome. Tears.
This week we saw the success and power of working with members! There is a girl named Tiffany who is BEST friends with one of the young women in our ward and she has come to church for a few years now, but her parents wont let her get baptized. Her parents hearts softened and we taught her for the first time yesterday!! Her mom is a little hesitant but HEY! We can work through that. It is funny because she already knows everything. We taught the restoration and afterwards she was like, "This is what my Sunday School lesson was on today." HAHAHA so yeah she is like already a member.
The members here seriously just come up to us and say hey can you teach my friend? We dont even ask! They just do it themselves!!! The relief society president's husband asked us to teach his friend named Eric. He plays basketball with them on Tuesday nights and accepted the invite! He is 26, looks a little latino, a little african american. He came over for dinner last night at the Sorensons house. They are all SUPER HUGE Warriors fans and they said that because I was serving my mission here, I was automatically a fan SO I am now a Warriors fan! I just need to get a shirt to make it official. It went well and afterwards we began to talk about religion. I swear on my life this is what Eric said, "I have heard that there are like 60 different versions of 'God' out there and I have just been wondering if there is ONE true God or ONE true church. I know there is a God but I dont know where He is." I almost choked to death on my Cambodian food. I couldnt believe he had just said that. HOW GOLDEN. It took all of my energy not to just scream THERE IS A GOD AND THIS IS HIS CHURCH haha. So we went outside and Brother Sorenson kind of explained what missionaries do. It was a perfect intro because he talked about how we are not here to pressure him into anything and it was his choice to accept it, but we are just here because it has blessed our lives so much so we want to share it with him!
We taught him the Restoration. The Spirit was SO strong. His eyes just lit up. He was on the edge of his seat, ready to read whatever we asked him to read. We taught about how there is ONE God and how He is our FATHER and He loves us and we are His CHILDREN! He knew this was true, you could see it in his eyes. When we explained how the priesthood had been restored, he goes, "wow." We compared him to Joseph Smith, how he was confused and searching for ONE God too!!!! So golden. At the end we invited him to read and pray about the Book of Mormon. He said, "oh wow yeah I will DEFINITELY read and pray wow. But I will probably have some questions, who do I ask?" We told him that he can ask God but that that is exactly why we were there, is for him, to answer his questions. He was so happy I thought his smile would never leave his face. We talked about prayer and he said he was grateful that he could express from his heart. it is comments like that that make me realize how much I take prayer and having the gospel for granted!! He didnt even know he could talk to God! He was so happy to hear that he could PRAY! ah. At the end I bore my testimony really simply looking straight into his eyes. I told him that he didnt need to be confused anymore, that there was ONE God, who was his Father and who loved him. Relief swept over his whole being. Happiness filled mine.
Thought: Why doesnt God send Joseph Smith down here to prove that he was a prophet? Why doesnt God send the gold plates to show everyone that the Book of Mormon is true? Why doesnt God Himself come down and be like, "Hello I'm real and I'm here and I love you!" Because that would be taking away our agency. We would be forced to believe because we would KNOW Joseph Smith was a prophet, we would KNOW the Book of Mormon is true, we would KNOW God lives and loves us. There is no faith or choice, That would be following Satan's plan. We should be so grateful that Heavenly Father allows us to CHOOSE to believe, CHOOSE to have faith! How powerful! How beautiful that we can receive these answers for ourselves here and now through personal revelation through the Book of Mormon, which IS true, and from God, who DOES live and loves us.
This is His work. And I get to be a part of it!! HOW AWESOME and fun and rewarding. I am so happy and grateful. Here's to another week!
LOVE,
Sister Brinton :)
